macOS: cannot update - endless "downloading -> installing -> restart" loop

This morning I noticed the Toolbox App was trying to update itself ("Update Toolbox App automatically" was enabled). However, after downloading, installing and restarting itself, it would still be the previous version and try to auto-update again, so it'd start the whole cycle again.

I ended up removing the app and downloading the new dmg from the site.

OS: macOS Catalina (10.15.1)
