Toolbox unusable after update

I've been using Toolbox for some time from within a WSL2 hosted Ubuntu 20.04 LTS workstation using the X410 X-server. It has never been without its quirks and updating has always been cumbersome. However, since the last update to version 1.25.12569, it has become unusable and only displays a black window.

What has happened and how do I solve it?
